Avoidance is a common coping mechanism for people to ignore what is causing them pain or anxiety. If you find yourself continuing to reassure yourself by telling yourself if I just pretend this isn’t happening or look away everything will be fine. This creates a short term relief.
However by continuing this cycle, we never acknowledge how we really feel, as we don’t accept every emotion is normal and part of being human.
Denial and avoidance can lead to more anxiety and pain which will eventually portray itself in your thought patterns, feelings and behaviors.
By accepting where you are, feeling your emotions and being present. Exposure is also a great tool if it is anxiety you’re fearful of.
